Hamburg Port Warehouse Fire Injures 10 and Disrupts Transport

A warehouse fire at Hamburg Port on August 25 injured 10 people and disrupted transport after explosions from nitrous oxide cylinders triggered evacuations.

A massive fire broke out on August 25, 2025, at a warehouse in the southeastern area of Hamburg Port, disrupting transport and forcing evacuations. The blaze reportedly started in a parked vehicle before igniting hundreds of nitrous oxide cylinders, causing multiple explosions.

Flying debris damaged nearby vehicles and even struck a responding fire truck. Authorities issued an air quality warning due to potentially toxic smoke spreading across the city. In total, 10 people were injured, including three firefighters, a driver, and six civilians in the vicinity.

The incident forced closures of several roads and canals, bringing parts of Hamburg’s inland port traffic to a standstill. About 25 residents were evacuated by boat and other emergency means.

Firefighting operations involved specialized equipment, including fireboats, aerial units, and a mobile water cannon. Overnight, parts of the warehouse complex collapsed, but crews managed to prevent the flames from spreading further.

Local officials confirmed that containment efforts are ongoing, with investigations launched to determine the exact cause of the fire. The incident highlights the vulnerability of Europe’s third-busiest port to sudden industrial accidents and their impact on logistics chains.
