A.P. Moller – Maersk has christened its latest dual-fuel container vessel, the Bangkok Mærsk, during a naming ceremony in South Korea. Built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), the ship is the third in a series of six ultra-large container vessels designed for dual-fuel operations.

The first two ships of the series, Berlin Mærsk and Beijing Mærsk, have already entered service on Maersk’s Asia–Northern Europe trade route. The Bangkok Mærsk will soon join them, with three additional sister vessels scheduled for delivery later this year.

According to Maersk, the design of the new series is based on the company’s earlier class of 12 dual-fuel vessels, also built by HHI. The most notable difference is a wider beam, which increases container capacity to 17,480 TEU, compared to 16,000 TEU on the earlier Ane Mærsk class. This enhancement makes the Bangkok Mærsk and its sister ships the largest dual-fuel vessels in the company’s fleet to date.

All six ships in this series will be registered under the Danish flag. The deliveries form part of Maersk’s strategy to expand its dual-fuel fleet, supporting its long-term decarbonisation goals.
