Indonesia’s Pertamina, via its upstream arm Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), has initiated a rapid international tender to secure a jack‑up offshore drilling rig with associated support services, aiming for lease commencement by 1 September 2025 in the Mahakam block, East Kalimantan, to fulfill its approved 2025 exploration work program and budget.

The request was formally presented to SKK Migas to expedite approval of the rig procurement. Despite the urgency, industry insiders caution that mobilizing a foreign rig within two weeks is highly unusual, given typical preparation, transport (which can take one to three months depending on logistics), and regulatory clearance timelines. However, they note the possibility that a ready‑available rig provider could accelerate the process.
