Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has secured a significant contract worth approximately 2.1 trillion won to build six liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers for two clients based in Oceania, marking a strong rebound in awarded orders.
The agreement encompasses two separate deals: one for four vessels and another for two, all from different shipping companies in the region. Deliveries are scheduled to be completed by November 2028.
With this new award, SHI has added about USD 4.8 billion to its book of orders, achieving roughly 15.5% of its annual target of USD 9.8 billion (around 13.5 trillion won).
So far this year, SHI has amassed orders for a diverse portfolio: 7 LNG carriers, 9 shuttle tankers, 2 ethane carriers, 4 crude oil tankers, 2 container ships, and 1 offshore production facility (pre-contract phase).
Additionally, the company recently signed a preliminary contract for an offshore facility valued at USD 700 million (~1 trillion won) and is negotiating a Floating LNG (FLNG) construction deal with a Norwegian client. Industry sources suggest SHI could secure a portion of Mozambique’s FLNG project in Q3, further advancing its commercial momentum.
