On September 1, 2025, the Marine Dynamo, a hybrid-electric bunker tanker operated by V-Bunkers and chartered to Chevron, collided with the Greek-owned bulk carrier Flag Gangos about 8 kilometers south of Tanah Merah, Singapore. The accident caused a minor marine gas oil spill from a service tank positioned above the waterline. Authorities stated the leaked fuel is expected to evaporate and disperse naturally without long-term environmental damage.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) swiftly mobilized patrol craft, oil spill response vessels, and drone surveillance to secure the site. One crew member aboard the Marine Dynamo sustained minor injuries, while all other personnel on both vessels were reported safe.
Despite the collision, shipping traffic in the busy waterway remained unaffected, and both ships stayed stable after impact. The Marine Dynamo, delivered in 2023 with a 480 kWh energy storage system, represents new hybrid technology designed to cut emissions and improve efficiency.
The incident highlights both the operational risks in congested waters and the importance of robust emergency response systems in one of the world’s busiest maritime hubs.
