Qair Group’s flagship floating wind project, Eolmed, has entered its final construction phase at Port-La Nouvelle in southern France, with commissioning scheduled for the end of this year. Maritime operations began in late August, marking a decisive step toward the delivery of one of Europe’s key demonstration projects in floating wind technology.

French Expertise with a European Dimension

Eolmed has been developed with a strong reliance on French industrial expertise. According to Qair, around 80% of the project’s construction work has been awarded to domestic companies, reinforcing France’s position as a leader in offshore wind technology. At the same time, the project integrates European know-how, particularly in the fabrication of steel structures, transition pieces, and finishing works.

The combined approach makes Eolmed not only a “Made in France” initiative but also a European showcase for collaborative innovation. Qair positions the project as a strategic milestone that will shape its participation in upcoming offshore wind tenders across Europe and beyond.

Expanding the Offshore Wind Pipeline

The knowledge gained from Eolmed is already guiding Qair’s broader offshore wind portfolio, which now exceeds 8 GW under development across Europe.

  • Scotland: Qair is advancing the Ayre project, a 1 GW floating wind farm secured in the ScotWind leasing round. The project is currently progressing through planning and regulatory assessments.

  • Iberian Peninsula: In Spain, Qair is pursuing more than 2 GW of offshore capacity, while in Portugal, the group has partnered with Etermar Energia to support the country’s roadmap targeting 2 GW of offshore wind by 2030 and potentially up to 10 GW thereafter.

  • France: Through the Eolbleu consortium with Plenitude, Qair has been pre-qualified to compete for four strategic offshore wind zones in French waters, underscoring its ambition to strengthen its domestic position while leveraging international partnerships.

A Platform for Global Expansion

By combining French industrial strengths with European expertise, Qair intends to position Eolmed as a proof-of-concept for large-scale floating wind deployment worldwide. The project demonstrates the scalability of floating wind solutions and provides a template for Qair’s future activities in both established and emerging offshore wind markets.

Qair highlights Eolmed as evidence of France’s capacity for innovation in renewable energy, underscoring the country’s potential to play a leading role in Europe’s offshore wind expansion. With momentum building across several markets, the group sees the project as an essential driver of its strategy to accelerate the global energy transition.
