Maersk Oil makes discovery with Carambola-A in the Campos Basin offshore Brazil

Danish producer Maersk Oil has discovered hydrocarbons with exploration well 1-MRK-3/4P-RJS on Block BM-C-37 in the shallow waters of the Campos Basin offshore Brazil. 
Spud on November 3, 2010, the Carambola-A discovery well was drilled to a total depth of 3,400 meters, encountering multiple pay zones. Drilled by the Blackford Dolphin semisub, the Carambola-A prospect transected 14 meters of Sandstone reservoirs in the Santonian section, as well as carbonate reservoirs measuring 43 meters in the Albian section and 12 meters in the Aptian section. 
This is the first of two planned wells on Block BM-C-37. The Blackford Dolphin will now be transferred 4 kilometers to the north to drill the Carambola-B exploration well. 
Located about 74 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, the Carambola-A discovery well is situated in waters measuring 134 meters deep. 
Maersk Oil serves as the operator of the block with 50 percent interest. Brazilian independent OGX holds the remaining 50 percent interest.
