Husky Energy, Chinese partner advance their plans for offshore gas field

Husky Energy Inc. says it has an agreement in principle with China National Offshore Oil Corp. outlining their plans for funding and operating the Liwan 3-1 deep water gas field development.
The offshore gas field is one of the Calgary-based company's main development projects in Asia. Husky announced last week that it would to keep the Asian business rather than split them into a separate company.

Tidewater orders four Rolls-Royce designed offshore vessels

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, today announced that it has won an order to provide the design, propulsion systems and deck machinery for four deep water platform supply vessels.  The order from Tidewater is worth over £20 million to Rolls-Royce. 
 Tidewater is the largest provider of ships serving the global offshore oil and gas industry and has a fleet of around 400 vessels.

LUNDIN PETROLEUM IS AWARDED A NEW PRODUCTION SHARING CONTRACT IN INDONESIA

The South Sokang Block covers an area of approximately 4,994 km2. The block contains a new previously unknown frontier Eocene/Oligocene basin which has been discovered by Lundin Petroleum.
Lundin Petroleum holds a 60 percent interest in the block with Salamander Energy holding the remaining 40 percent interest. Lundin Petroleum is the operator of the block. 
During the first 3 year exploration phase Lundin Petroleum plans to shoot 2,400km 2D and 500km2 3D seismic. 
The PSC will be signed on December 10, 2010.

Advent Energy to commence towing of Ocean Patriot to New Seaclem-1 location

MEC Resources has been advised that its investee company Advent Energy has received updated advice as to operational handover of the Ocean Patriot emisubmersible drilling rig.
Advent Energy, through wholly owned subsidiary Asset Energy Pty Ltd, will commence towing of the Ocean Patriot to the New Seaclem-1 location tomorrow, Wednesday 8th December 2010.
The tow to the New Seaclem-1 location, 55 km due east of Newcastle, will take approximately four (4) days.

Argentina's YPF Announces Big Unconventional Gas Find

YPF SA, the Argentine unit of Spain's Repsol YPF SA, said Tuesday it has made a major unconventional gas find that could significantly boost Argentina's proven gas reserves.
YPF has found an estimated 4.5 trillion cubic feet of unconventional gas after drilling four exploratory wells at its Loma La Lata field in Neuquen Province.

RWE Dea Announces Norwegian North Sea Oil Discovery

RWE Dea Norge AS, operator of production licence 420, is in the process of completing the drilling of wildcat well 35/9-6 S. The well has been drilled about 16 km west of the Gjøa field. 
The primary exploration target for the well was to prove petroleum in reservoir rocks from the Middle Jurassic (the Brent group). The secondary exploration target was to prove petroleum in reservoir rocks in the Upper Jurassic (the Viking group) and the Lower Jurassic (the Dunlin group).

US inquiry into Gulf of Mexico oil spill 'blocked by BP supplier National Oilwell Varco'

The White House oil spill commission said that National Oilwell Varco is not cooperating with its requests for information.
The claim came as a Halliburton technician told a Coast Guard panel that he missed data on the upcoming “blow-out” that resulted in the deaths of 11 men aboard the Deepwater Horizon rig because he was taking a 10-minute smoking break.
US officials need National Oilwell Varco help to recreate what the crew who died in the accident might have seen on their monitors in the moments before the he accident on April 20.

COSCO Corp. Inks $110 Million Deal for Three Bulk Carriers

The Board of Directors of COSCO Corporation (Singapore) Limited (the Company) wishes to announce that COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of the Company’s 51% owned subsidiary, COSCO Shipyard Group Co. Ltd., has secured contracts valued over USD110 million to build three (3) bulk carriers of 82,000 dwt each. The contracts are effective following receipt of the initial deposits from the European ship owner and Chinese ship owner.
The bulk carriers which will be built at COSCO (Dalian) shipyards are scheduled for deliveries in September 2012 and January 2013 respectively.
None of the directors or controlling shareholders of the Company has any interest, direct or indirect in the contracts.
The contracts are not expected to have a material impact on the net tangible assets and earnings per share of the Company for the year ending 31 December 2010.

Hyundai Heavy to Build Korea's Largest CIGS Thin-film Soar Cell Plant

Hyundai Heavy took the first step in building Korea's biggest CIGS(copper, indium, gallium, selenide) thin-film solar cell plant.

The investment agreement signed with France's Saint-Gobain and Chungcheongbuk-do is to build a 400 MW GIGS solar cell plant in Ochang Foreign Investment Zone, Chungcheongbuk-do , by 2015. Construction is scheduled to start from March 2011.

Upon completion, the 231,000 ㎡ solar cell plant will have four solar cell manufacturing buildings with an annual production capacity of 100 MW CIGS each and one administration office building.

Last October, Hyundai Heavy and Saint-Gobain established the joint venture company Hyundai Avancis that can help to advance mass production of thin-film solar cells in the Korean market.

Kim Jung-rae, a senior executive vice president of Hyundai Heavy said "The new plant makes Hyundai Heavy the sole Korean company producing both thin-film and crystalline solar cells. Upon completion of the plant, we can achieve our target of being a Global Top 5 CIGS solar cell manufacturer by 2015."

The new factory is also expected to have a positive effect on the economy of Chungcheongbuk-do by creating about 1,000 new jobs and boosting local tax revenues.

New Director Operations & Offshore with Jumbo

As per 1st of February 2011 Mr Patrick van Eerten will join Jumbo as Director Operations & Offshore. Patrick’s broad experience started with a Nautical career with the Royal Dutch Navy followed with Design and General Management tasks at De Voogt Naval Architects. His next career steps were in the Oil & Gas industry as Operational Manager with Heerema Marine Contractors and General Manager for a Stork Company providing Offshore services. At present he’s living in Canada working for Trylon as Chief Operating Officer.
Patrick will be the successor of Mr Dirk Leenheer. Dirk’s main focus was further development of the Offshore activities within Jumbo and optimizing internal processes. Besides that, he contributed in bringing Safety awareness and behaviour to a next level.
Hand-over will be in the first weeks of February. We want to thank Dirk for all his efforts and like to welcome Patrick and wish him a lot of success in his new role.

Bulk Carrier Rescued After Being Disabled & Adrift in Bering Sea


At 12:15 AM on December 3, crew onboard the M/V GOLDEN SEAS reported to the coast guard that the vessel was adrift, in 20 foot seas 50 miles north of Adak Island.
The crew reported that the turbocharger on the ship’s single propulsion engine had failed and without it the ship’s engine was unable to turn propeller with sufficient power to hold the vessel in place or make headway in the severe weather.
When the weather died down the bulk carrier was able to use what little power it had to steer away from land, moving at about 3 mph.
