Abraxas Announces Production Rates for First Eagle Ford Well

Abraxas Petroleum Corporation today announced production rates for its first Eagle Ford well in South Texas.
In DeWitt County, Texas, Blue Eagle Energy, LLC, the previously announced joint venture between Abraxas and Rock Oil Company, LLC, drilled the T Bird 1H to a total measured depth of 19,450 feet, including a 5,700 foot lateral. The well was completed with a 15-stage fracture stimulation and placed on-line in January 2011 at a restricted rate. Over the past 19 days, the well has produced an average of 5.8 MMcf of liquids-rich gas and 342 barrels of condensate per day on a 12/64-inch choke. Abraxas currently owns an approximate 50% interest in the joint venture.
“We are quite proud of our operations team as the T Bird well was drilled, completed and placed on-line approximately 75 days after spud. This is a very strong well and capable of producing eye catching headlines as the flowing pressure is currently 8,500 psi; however, due to long-term reservoir considerations, we are restricting the flow through a relatively small choke. Comparing the early performance of the T Bird well to others in the area, our well is one of the strongest in the DeWitt County gas/condensate window,” commented Bob Watson, Abraxas’ President and CEO.

Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group Adopts Unique Approach to Corporate Social Responsibility

Looking back in the year 2010, we have witnessed that the term ‘charity’ has become an increasingly popular keyword in Chinese society, from Bill Gates and Warren Buffett's charity banquet, to all-out donations and to civil charities.
This public topic has also attracted the attention of Sinopacific: how can we perform our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for the purpose of philanthropy?
Many people may think that CSR means simply doing good deeds and making donations… However, Sinopacific believes in CSR means clinging to the business ethics which includes clinging to lawful business operation, advocating product safety, environmental protection, protection of employee benefits, integrity and responsibility to all stakeholders and etc. The enterprise provides more tax revenue and employment opportunities through legitimate business activities, which fully embodies the CSR, and thus to maximize the desire to contribute to the community. Enterprise will do philanthropy activities while clinging to CSR. Enterprise also makes philanthropy activities a kind of business, which provides a driving force for long-term sustainable development of enterprises, as well as promoting the enterprise development to a new level.
“Enterprises cannot conduct philanthropy activities without a definite target. Activities should be strongly associated with the business. The charity result will be more effective only when the enterprise operation performance is good. On the other hand, the accumulated positive effect of charity events will benefit the growth of enterprises. This is a healthy and sustainable charity mode," said Simon Liang, Chairman & CEO of Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group.
Sinopacific's approach to philanthropy has always been focused on the operation value of the enterprise. In other words, “Our philanthropy projects are targeted at groups we are familiar with and the communities we live in. This not only ensures that the projects help people in need, but also allows us to provide strong supervision. As the old Chinese saying goes, “to use the best steel on the sword’s cutting edge” said Lin Bo, Executive Manager of Sinopacific. For example, migrant workers are the main workforce in the shipbuilding sector. Before the Chinese New Year, Dayang Shipbuilding, an affiliated shipyard of Sinopacific, gave out red envelopes to a dozen of migrant workers to support their trips home for family reunion through the Dayang Migrant Workers Caring Fund. After the Festival, they had come back to work with full of spirit, being active to start work. With migrant workers' needs in mind, this practical philanthropy event achieved mutual benefit for the enterprise and workers.
In 2010, Sinopacific established a specialized fellowship in Harbin Engineering University designed to encourage students majoring in ship related specialties to join the promising shipbuilding sector. With the excellent graduates majoring in shipbuilding, this well-known college represents the future of China’s shipbuilding sector. This fellowship represents Sinopacific's commitment to training specialized talents and actively promoting sustainable corporate development. In addition, the establishment of Fenghua Education Fund and Sinopacific Shipbuilding Technical School announced Sinopacific’s philanthropy philosophy from different aspects: provide what we do best to people we know.
This end of February, the Global CEO Conference will be held in New York under the theme of “Business at its best: maximizing long-term profit and social impact”. The conference provides enterprises and organizations with opportunity to discuss the integration of charity and business in order to achieve a positive relationship. Mr. Simon Liang will be attending this conference in the hope of acquiring inspiration to discover an approach to corporate philanthropy that best suits China’s enterprises.
The Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group Sinopacific is a diversified corporation engaged in shipbuilding, trading and designing etc. The Group has 2 shipyards - Zhejiang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd and Yangzhou Dayang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. The company has its own Research, Development and Technical Team and is fast-paced in business development.
With strong forward-looking strategy, state-of-the-art facilities, flexible management concept and advanced technologies, the Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group offers a high quality service and products to its customers. The Group’s product line includes bulk carriers, container ships, gas carriers/ liquid cargo vessels and offshore oil platform supply vessels.
The Group aims to emerge as the market leader in China’s shipbuilding industry by consistently reengineering its business process to seek new innovation and management style. Through an integrated management system, it achieved centralized resource management, cost reduction and increase of production effectiveness which builds up its solid foundation to continue its growth towards the leading company in China’s ship building industry.

E.R.Schiffahrt goes global with Viking

When it came time to renew its safety equipment servicing contracts, Germany’s E.R. Schiffahrt, a leading shipowner and ship management company, chose to take a leading edge approach.
By custom-tailoring a Shipowner Agreement servicing contract offered by VIKING Life-Saving Equipment, the shipping company has managed to create a global servicing agreement supported at 42 locations with a single point of contact.
Working closely with VIKING analysts, E.R.Schiffahrt’s team went over the numbers, drawing upon their own experience and the advice of VIKING safety experts. The deal the two companies came up with is a comprehensive one covering liferafts, lifeboats, immersion suits, lifejackets and marine fire systems and equipment such as fire extinguishers on more than 30 vessels of the shipowner’s fleet. The plan is for VIKING to manage not just service notifications, but also the coordination of all servicing.
While lifeboats and marine fire equipment will be covered under a fixed-price servicing arrangement, E.R. Schiffahrt saw advantages in replacing other brand liferafts with VIKING products. Together with the immersion suits, these new liferafts will be serviced via fixed-price exchange, which sees products simply being swapped out as their certificates expire. VIKING maintains a worldwide exchange pool for liferaft servicing at VIKING-owned stations in 42 strategic ports. A number of new builds are also included in the tailored Shipowner Agreement.
Lutz Mentzel, E.R.Schiffahrt’s Procurement Manager, commented “Our company strategy drives us to constantly find new ways to lead the market and so we naturally apply the same thinking to our servicing contracts. A Shipowner Agreement made a lot of sense to us, particularly in terms of time-savings and the predictability of servicing costs. And VIKING’s insightful analysis helped us to customize the contract for our exact needs.”
“It’s exciting for us that far-sighted shipowners like E.R. Schiffahrt have the business acumen to revisit the way safety equipment servicing is structured and managed,” says Jorgen Holm, Sales Director. “There’s a lot to be gained by dropping conventional approaches and adopting new best practices.”
VIKING is experiencing heavy demand for its innovative Shipowner Agreements, which offer a large range of options and can include additional flexibility during the life of the agreement to cater for shipowners’ changing requirements.
