Far East Energy Announces Completion of Gathering System, Nomination of First Gas Sales, and Anticipated Payment Before December 31

Far East Energy Corporation today announced that the Company and its Chinese partner, CUCBM, have initiated the process for nomination of initial gas for sales, with delivery to occur between late December and January 20, 2011.  In accordance with the Gas Sales Agreement, Shanxi Guoxin Energy Development Group, the Purchaser, will prepay for gas volumes each month when volumes are nominated.  Thus, it is anticipated that first payment will occur before December 31, as previously projected by Far East.   The initial nomination of gas covers gas produced from wells that will be connected to the gathering system before year-end.
FEEC also stated that the second-stage compressor has arrived on site for immediate installation.  Delivery of the first-stage compressors will be accepted before year-end.  Final commissioning and initial delivery of gas is scheduled to occur between January 15 and January 20, although some gas may be delivered directly to second stage compression before December 31.
FEEC also reported that it has drilled 9 additional wells since August 31, 2010; is currently drilling seven more wells, one of which is a parameter well approximately 20 kilometers to the south of the 1H Pilot Area; and is in the process of completing fracture stimulation operations on a total of 11 wells.
In addition to the Pilot Area extension wells, the SYS-02 parameter well, being drilled 20 kilometers south of the 1H Pilot Area will test the southward extension of the high permeability the company has discovered in the northern part of the Shouyang Block.  This well has just spudded and should be testing the #15 coal seam in early January 2011.  Far East has previously drilled a series of parameter wells to the west and southwest of its Pilot Area with permeability in the P7 parameter well, some 22 kilometers to the west, testing at approximately 100 millidarcies.
Michael R. McElwrath, Far East CEO and President said, "Clearly the Company is pleased to report that in the 3.5 months since its 2010/2011 drilling program raise, 16 of the 60 wells planned at that time have either been drilled and are being fraced, or are currently underway, keeping us precisely on schedule.  However, the biggest news of all is that the gas nomination process has commenced, and first payment for gas should be forthcoming before year-end."  McElwrath added, "FEEC continues to check off major milestones according to projections, and we wish to thank all of our investors for their support."

Allied Energy Begins Horizontal Drilling Program in Leon County, Texas

Allied Energy announced today that the Company has commenced drilling operations for its first horizontal well in Leon County, Texas.
The Company plans to drill 7,000 feet +/- vertical and approximately 4,000 feet horizontal to test the oil bearing Woodbine Formation utilizing new and evolving fracture stimulation methodologies.
Over the last year, there have been a series of horizontal Woodbine wells on trend, which were drilled and completed for production, and reported average initial production rates of approximately 200 to 300 BO per day. Allied plans to mimic the most prolific wells in the play, which utilize the combination of horizontal laterals with multi-stage hydraulic fracture treatments. The ability to drill horizontal laterals and apply multi-stage treatments to the Woodbine Formation has created what appears to be a growing trend of horizontal drilling activity in the regional area of the East Texas Basin.
In Grimes County, the Allied Operating Howard #2H was recently drilled to a total measured depth of approximately 18,000' along existing trends. The Howard #2H is a horizontal lateral that encountered a series of natural gas bearing intervals while drilling through the primary objective Buda / Georgetown Limestone Formation.
On December 12, 2010, the Howard #2H tested at a rate of approximately 4,000 MCFGD with associated condensate. It is anticipated that the well will initially produce at a sales of ~2,000 MCFGD equivalent and potentially higher in the future. The Company is currently constructing production facilities, gas flow lines, processing facilities and other necessary surface equipment in preparation to begin its ongoing production operations.
On May 15, 2010, Allied first horizontal location in Grimes County, the Howard #1H, tested at a flowing rate of 4,011 MCFGD with associated condensate.
"We are extremely pleased with the results we have seen for our Grimes County project and are also excited about utilizing many of the latest technological advances for horizontal drilling in Leon County as well," said Steve Stengell, Allied's Chief Executive Officer. "The price for oil makes this project even more attractive," added Stengell.
Allied Operating Texas, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary, was formed in 2009 for the purposes of operating and developing Allied Energy's vertical and horizontal drilling programs in Central-East Texas Basins.
No assurances can be made as to the company's future success and/or ability to sponsor general partnerships or other oil and natural gas projects. Nor can assurances be made as it relates to present or future production rates or estimated reserves for any given project. Tremendous risks and uncertainty are associated with oil and gas drilling, completion, development and production operations. It is impossible to accurately estimate future rates and/or declines in production operations for oil, condensate and natural gas.
Allied Energy has achieved the "Best of Bowling Green" award for the category of crude oil and natural gas production for the last two years and was recently chosen by an independent selection committee as the recipient for the Bowling Green "Outstanding Business of the Year" community impact award for 2010.

Sasol buying stake in Talisman's Montney shale gas

Sasol Ltd. agreed to buy a 50% stake in Talisman Energy Inc.’s Montney shale gas play in the Farrell Creek project in northeastern British Columbia for $1.05 billion (Can.), and the two companies plan a Farrell Creek area partnership that Talisman will operate.
Talisman President and Chief Operating Officer John A. Manzoni said Sasol’s expertise will help Talisman decide whether to build a gas-to-liquids plant in western Canada. Terms of the transaction call for an economic feasibility study regarding a GTL plant.
“This could provide a strategic alternative to traditional North American pipeline or liquefied natural gas marketing,” Talisman said. Sasol uses its Fischer-Tropsch technology to transform natural gas into gasoline and diesel in South Africa and Qatar.
“The outlook for GTL could be very positive in North American natural gas prices continue to decouple from oil prices,” Talisman said.
Closing, subject to regulatory approval, is expected during the first half of 2011.
The 51.6 acre site holds an estimated 9.6 tfc, said Sasol, which agreed to pay $260 million upon closing and carry 75% of Talisman's future capital commitments in Farrell Creek up to $790 million total.
Farrell Creek production is expected to reach 40-60 MMcfed by yearend. Previously, Talisman expanded its Farrell Creek processing facilities to 120 MMcfd.
Talisman and Sasol also agreed to collaborate on certain other western Canadian natural gas opportunities.

Siemens adopts power strategy aimed at reducing CO2 emissions from Barents Sea oil platform

Siemens Energy will supply power to the Goliat floating offshore platform in the Barents Sea north of Norway via a 106 kilometre long sub-sea cable, a strategy it says will reduce CO2 emissions from the oil and gas operation by 50 percent.
Typically, power for oil and gas platforms is generated by onboard gas turbines and generators.
By contrast, Siemens will supply a turnkey shore side power supply system to the Stavanger (Norway)-based Eni Norge. It will consist of a Hyggevatn substation located in Hammerfest in northern Norway, 132-kV overhead transmission lines, buried cable and a reactive-power compensation system.
The shore side power supply to the platform is scheduled to come on line in 2012; the start of production in the Goliat field is planned for late 2013, the company said.

Horn of Africa: why India should care more

Africa has been of growing interest to India for political and economic reasons but does it have security implications for us? The answer is ‘yes,’ especially as we focus on a particular sub-region, the Horn of Africa.
