Six firms eye Sao Tome oil blocks, majors stay away



Six firms will compete for rights to explore for oil in Sao Tome and Principe's exclusive offshore zone but oil majors were absent from the list despite the country's oil agency previously saying they were interested.
The tiny island nation is hoping to join neighbours who have struck oil in the Gulf of Guinea but initial exploration results from an area it shares with Nigeria have disappointed. It has extended deadlines for auctioning off its exclusive zone.
