Tongan ferry unsuitable, court told



THE HEAD of the Shipping Corp of Polynesia was told that ferry Princess Ashika was unsuited to Tongan waters before it was purchased, a court has heard.
Viliami Vaka’uta Pola Vi, a maritime expert who worked for SCP for three years before becoming a lecturer at the Tongan Maritime Institute, told the Supreme Court in Nuku’alofa that he was contacted by SCP managing director John Jonesse in April 2009 to advise on plans to buy the 37-year-old vessel from Fijian owners.
