Russia and Belgium: partnership for modernization
Russia will rent Belgian gas storages on a long-term basis. This will guarantee fulfilment of contracts for gas deliveries to EU countries. This agreement was reached on Wednesday, during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s meeting with Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme in Brussels.
The memorandum between Russian Gazprom Export and Belgian company Fluxys, signed in Brussels, will allow to effectively develop gas transfer corridors between Russia and the EU. The sides admit that investment in infrastructure, namely, gas pipelines and storage, will be one of the key factors of European energy security.
