U.S. Rig Count Rises by 10 to 1,723, Baker Hughes Says
Oil and natural-gas rigs operating in the U.S. rose by 10 to the highest level since December 2008, led by an increase in oil drilling, according to data published by Baker Hughes Inc.
The total rig count climbed 0.6 percent to 1,723. The combined oil and gas rig count hit a 22-year high in 2008, peaking at 2,031.
Oil rigs increased for the second week, rising by 21 to 763, the highest level since 1987, Baker Hughes said.
